Mervyn Burtch

Mervyn Burtch lived in Ystrad Mynach, Glamorgan, where he was born in 1929. He taught part time at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. As a composer, he was comfortable writing for various genre, be it vocal or instrumental and received numerous commissions over the years. His work can frequently be heard in the concert hall or on record and his operas – particularly his operas for children – are amongst his most popular works. Cardiff Polyphonic Choir have recently produced a CD, I am David, of a number of his choral works. He sadly passed away, May 2015 at the age of 85.
